Living In The Valley Of The Dolls

SHARONTATECOSTARSVALLEY

I am a huge fan of the campy Valley of the Dolls. The 1966 novel by Jacqueline Susann is one of my favorite trashy reads. I also love the 1967 movie starring Barbara Parkins, Sharon Tate & Patty Duke. The dolls in the title refer to drugs for those that have never read the book or seen the movie. I highly recommend both. The story deals with these three younger women as they pursue love and their careers. Each of them become dependent in some form or fashion on drugs. The story is full of a lot of ups and downs. It's definitely a camp classic. I'm sure some of you have bound to have seen it, right?

Definitely better than VOTD Part II - the handiwork of Mr. Roger Ebert. Piece-o-Crap.

Of course, where S. Tate is concerned, it really doesn't matter what movie she's in, I'll love it.

I've never seen or heard of the movie or book but it sounds awesome and I'm very interested in checking it out after reading this post.

Hey Gil. Thanks for commenting. Great hearing from you. I know what you mean about Ebert's disaster. I loved this one. Oh yeah. I'd watch anything Sharon Tate was in.

Hey Stiletto. Thanks for commenting. I definitely hope you'll check out this movie. The book is really good too. I remember reading it when I was a young teen. I was a big fan of this and Jackie Collins novels.

Hey Phoebe. Glad to see you're a fan. I actually think this was the first movie I saw of Sharon's too.

Valley of the Dolls epitomizes Sixties fashion, with stunning actresses and witty dialogue to boot. It's a shame that Beyond the Valley of the Dolls exceeds it's reputation, strictly because it's a lot more raunchy. A classic! xo.

I've never seen it, I really should - although Generation X (featuring a young Billy Idol) did a great single in the late seventies called Valley of the Dolls. It was on disgusting coloured vinyl though..

I haven't seen this in ages, but I loved it when I did. Great direction and cast. And I loved the book. The remake (or 'newer' version) on the other hand I could have lived without.

Keith said...

Hey Dave. Hope you get a chance to see it. Never knew that about Generation X. I don't really dig the colored vinyl myself.

I have heard nothing but good things about this book. I am so mad I gifted it before I got a chance to read it. Need to get another copy!

This movie is so stylistic and beyond it's time. And the outfits! I could have lived in their costume department.

Keith said...

Hey Lenore. Thanks. I'm happy that you like this movie. I definitely hope you'll check it out again. I need to as well.

Keith said...

Hey Dina. Thanks for commenting. Oh yeah. You definitely need to read it. It's such a great camp classic.

Hey Mrs. M. Thanks for commenting. I did love all the costumes in this movie. They were so fab.

I have to admit, as I hang my head in shame, I haven't seen this flick. I've heard a lot about it but have yet to pick up a copy. I'll have to remedy that soon!

Yup I'm a big fan of this movie too, first time I saw it as a teenager I wondered who the mysterious Sharon Tate was.

Keith said...

Hey K&S. Don't feel so bad, my friend. Part of what I love about doing this blog is getting people to check out movies, etc. that they might not have.

Keith said...

Hey Amy. Thanks for commenting. Cool to see you're seen this film too. I was mesmerized by Sharon from the first time I saw her.
